The Republic of Türkiye are celebrating their first Turkish Astronaut to make into outer space, Air Force Colonel Alper Gezeravci. Alper, alongside three other European crew members, made his first mission to the International Space Station which was launched from Florida on Friday 19^th January. Gezeravci said in his first address to the nation from space.“I would like to start this moment which is Türkiye’s first space mission with the words of [first Turkish president] Mustafa Kemal Ataturk: The future is on the sky,” The mission is a commercial mission arranged by Texas-based Axiom Space company and is named Crew Dragon. The Turkish Space Agency announced that Gezeravcı will remain in space for two weeks and will conduct 14 different scientific experiments.    

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has invited Elon Musk, head of Tesla, to establish its seventh mega factory in  Türkiye as part of the ongoing developments of “Türkiye’s technological breakthroughs as well as the ‘Digital Türkiye’ vision and the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy”. Musk said that many Turkish suppliers are already working with Tesla and that Türkiye was among the most important candidates for its next factory. He added that SpaceX wished to work with Turkish authorities to obtain the necessary license to offer Starlink satellite services in Türkiye. Our president also invited Mr Musk to Türkiye’s largest aerospace and technology festival Teknofest, on Sept. 29, 2024. In a message he posted on X, Musk said he would be attending the festival in person next year. He also said he would discuss further opportunities for investment in Türkiye.

New legislation has been introduced as of January 1, 2024 in relation to The Rental Of Residential Properties For Tourism Purposes. The legislation establishes the general principles, permissions, and administrative penalties concerning the short-term tourism-oriented rental of residences, limited to durations of fewer than one hundred days. The law outlines significant administrative fines and penalties in the event of non-compliance. The Law requires authorisation from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (‘Ministry”) and requires that a notice is displayed at the entrance of the rented residences. Only authorised agencies certified in accordance with the Laws are permitted to engage in rental activities for tourism purposes. The new regulations aim to promote tourism development while considering public safety and order.
