Rising Tourism numbers arrive at Antalya Airport
In the first three months of 2024, the popular holiday destination welcomed more than 1 million visitors, an increase of 25.6 percent compared with the January-March period of last year. The highest ranking countries are 1st Germany up by 65%, 2nd UK up by 40%, 3rd Poland up by 43%. Other notable increases were Ukraine up by 48%, Iran up by 73%, Dutch up by 38%. Russian arrivals fell by about 20%. Türkiye is aiming to welcome over 60 million tourists and generate $60 billion in tourism revenues in 2024.
Some 27 billionaires made it to Forbes’ Richest People in the World List this year with a combined net worth of $57.7 billion. Bertrand Arnault topped the global list with a net worth of $233 billion. Elon Musk and Jess Bezos come second and third at $195 billion and $194 billion, respectively. The U.S. now boasts a record 813 billionaires worth a combined $5.7 trillion. China remains second, with 473, including Hong Kong, worth $1.7 trillion, while India, which has 200 billionaires, also a record, ranks third. Murat Ülker is the richest person in Türkiye with a net worth of $5.1 billion, followed by Şaban Cemil Kazancı with $3.5 billion (Ülker and Kazancı rank 597th and 920th in the global list). İpek Kıraç and Semahat Sevim Arsel come third and fourth with $3.1 billion and $3 billion, respectively.
New Mayor of Alanya
Osman Tarık Özçelik of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) has been elected as the new Mayor of Alanya, this is the first time in 74 years that a CHP member has held this post. Osman Taryk Ozchelik was born in Alanya on 11-01-1962. Married, father of two children, he has a higher education in chemical engineering from Hacettepe University in Ankara. Ozchelik is the head of the Özçelik Group Holding and is ranked as the 137th richest person in Türkiye. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Aladdin Keykubat State University in Alanya. Osman Taryk Ozchelik officially assumed the post of mayor of the city on 5th April and has stated that “Together with our professional and honest team, we will fulfil the promises made to our citizens”.
New Mega Shopping Centre in Mahmutlar
The New Akdeniz Park Mega Shopping Mall in the Centrum of Mahmutlar will be officially opened on Thursday 18th April. It is the biggest shopping centre in the Antalya province and will compliment the Yekta Mall which was recently opened. The four-storey city mall project will include ten escalators, two panoramic elevators, 15 service elevators, a five-storey parking lot for 150 cars, an indoor ice rink, a bowling alley, a cinema, 91 shops and a children’s play area.
